Background It was an AusAID mission in Fiji, where Md. SaifuddinKhaled (Chairman & CEO, GMark) delivered his consultancy services on a scoping mission regarding the prospect of introducing "Making markets work for the poor (M4P)". The assignment focused on the key issues and challenges and the potential outcomes of market development approach in context of Fiji. An assessment and recommendation in relation to the potential scope for a market-based approach to poverty reduction in Fiji were made during the mission. It particularly covered the sub-sectors like Horticulture, Automobile Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Food processing, Tourism, Handicrafts and came up with the findings of having wider scale opportunities to work in the vegetables, handicrafts and tourism sub-sectors.
