Background

Oxfam Bangladesh has used market-based approaches to enhance the livelihoods of smallholder women and men living in poverty across three geographical areas (Char, Haor and coastal) in Bangladesh. Oxfam GB is currently working in 15 Districts where livelihood programmes are at different stages of engagement with formal markets, primarily supporting small holder farmers and marginal farmers and increasingly working to promote women economic leadership. Some of these initiatives include the facilitation of a whole new women-led value chains such as chili, dairy, maize, duck and crabs undertaking gendered market researches and creation of strong linkages between livelihoods work and climate change adaptation and policy engagement in Bangladesh.

Oxfam GB aspires to build partnerships that are inclusive, accountable, empowering, and based on relationships of openness and trust. The "role of mentor" in supporting country programmes developed business plan, under take gendered market maps/gendered value chain analysis, private sector engagements, etc. The EDP experience similarly affirmed the importance of building a one-to-one relationship with an experienced individual/organization, getting someone that the enterprise could trust and supporting enterprises in early stages. Thus, in line with the global aspiration and regional priority to build robust livelihood programmes that are innovative, financially viable and sustainable, and promotes women economic leadership, the Mentor is envisaged to fill-in the capacity-gap and/or mentor Oxfam staff, partners, enterprises in understanding markets systems, designing market-based livelihoods and enterprise development, among others.

Tasks

The role of the technical partner, GMark Consulting Limited, that are in practice as follows:

To serve as mentor to support the capacity-building, program designing, research and operational implementation needs of Oxfam staff, partners, enterprise in the areas of enterprise development, business planning, financial analysis, gendered market mapping/gendered value chain analysis, private sector linkages and other related fields in market-based livelihoods;
To serve as a knowledge hub for learning and exchange amongst mentor, Oxfam staff, partners and relevant stakeholders (e.g. private sector, donors, finance institutions, governments) in transformative livelihood programming on viable market-based approaches and promoting women economic leadership

Specific tasks are:

Branding and Promotion of Chili Business of the CTE-f (Chili Traders Enterprise-Fulchari)
Research and Market analysis of the CTE-f business
Market Development for the CTE-f
Facilitation Training on Leadership and Vision development, Business management, Service delivery strategy and customer satisfaction, Business model, Partnership management and linkage development etc.
