Background

Sightsavers strive to eliminate avoidable blindness, and pushes for equal opportunities for people who are blind. They recognize that to bring about real and lasting change for as many people as possible, they need to be influencing governments in the countries they work. Therefore, Sightsavers is supporting Social Inclusion and Inclusive Education Project where they identified people with disability and is currently working to rehabilitate them economically and through vocational education. In regards, Sightsavers understand that they should look for more opportunities for the persons with disability in different value chains of Bangladesh to scale up the projects, as well as to ensure the projects' sustainability.

Tasks

The key objective of the study was to analyze potential and feasible market system for persons with disability and recommend suitable IGAs for them.

The assignment took into consideration all the potential aspects of income generation of the persons with disability, that will include off farm activities i.e., handicrafts, SME related activities, small scale manufacturing, trading etc. considering local resource utilization; on farm doings i.e., livestock, homestead, horticulture, agro-forestry etc. and their placement in the different layers of value chain as mainstream actors inclusive of producers. Besides, the service market scenarios for the target beneficiary group like- government service provisions and requirement and also inclusion of different multi-level private services for the disable persons were evaluated during the assignment.
